Hotmail Account Login & Sign Up- Complete Process Step By Step

Microsoft has integrated Hotmail( with Outlook and now they are one service. Now you don’t need to create separate accounts for various Microsoft services. You need to create one account which can be used across all the services including Outlook, Skype, Xbox, OneDrive, Windows 10 and more. This is quite like a Google ID. You can use the same Google ID to access Gmail, Hangouts, Google Drive, Google+ and all other Google services.

Since Hotmail is now Outlook, you don’t need to sign up and log in separately for it. You just need to create one Microsoft account and you will get the Hotmail account login & sign up via Outlook. But, even though the email service is provided through Outlook and new emails have extension, this does not mean that you cannot use your existing Hotmail( id. In fact, if you want, you can create the sign in the account as well.  In this article, we will learn how to create a Hotmail account and sign in to Microsoft with it.

Signing up for Microsoft Account with a Hotmail ID

You can access your Microsoft account from the login page For that, you will need an account. What if you don’t have one? In that case, you can create an account and you can get a Hotmail ID as well. This is what you need to do:

  1. Visit the sign in page
  2. Click the option ‘Create one!’ next to ‘No account?’
  3. In the ‘Username’ section you need to provide an email which will work as your username for the Microsoft account. You don’t necessarily have to provide the Outlook email; you can use third-party email such as Gmail, Yahoo!, etc.
    • However, since our objective is to create a Hotmail ID, you will need to click the link ‘Get the new email address’ just underneath the ‘Username’ text box
    • Now a drop-down will appear along with the ‘Username’ field where you can choose or
    • Choose and then enter the desired username
  4. Fill the rest of the form and enter the captcha
  5. Once you have provided all the information you can click ‘Create Account’ at the bottom

You will now be redirected to your Microsoft account page. This is all you need to do in order to create a Hotmail (or Microsoft) account.

Logging in to Hotmail Account

Whether you have an existing Hotmail ID or you have just created one from Hotmail sign up, you can follow the steps below to log in:

  2. Enter your Hotmail ID (make sure you enter the full ID with; You can also enter your phone number if you provided it while signing up
  3. Click ‘Next’
  4. On the next screen enter your login password
  5. Select ‘Keep me signed in’ if you want Microsoft to sign you in automatically the next time you visit the login page. Make sure you keep this box unchecked on a public computer
  6. Click ‘Sign in’ button
  7. You will now be logged in to your Microsoft account page
  8. If you wish to access your Hotmail (or Microsoft) Account Inbox, you can click ‘View inbox’ on the left under ‘Looking for your Microsoft email?’

Reset Hotmail Password

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it easily. But, before resetting, make sure that the capslock is not on. If you still need to reset, follow these steps:

  1. Visit
  2. Enter your Hotmail email address or username and click Next
  3. On the password page click ‘Forgot my password’ or you can visit directly
  4. Select ‘I forgot my password’ and click ‘Next’
  5. Provide the log in (or Microsoft account) ID and  enter the captcha
  6. Click Next
  7. You will be given 3 options to receive the security code:
    1. Email at the alternate email address you provided at the time of registration
    2. Text message to the phone number you provided at the time of registration
    3. Call the phone number you provided at the time of registration
  8. Choose the desired option and click Next. You will receive a code which you will need to enter on the subsequent screen. You will then be able to reset the password (In case you don’t have access to any of these you will need to select ‘I don’t have any of these’ and click Next; now move on to the next step.)
  9. You will need to provide an email address other than the one for which you are trying to recover the password. You will receive an email at this address with a code
  10. Enter the account security code in the pop-up window and click Verify
  11. You will now be asked a series of questions to authenticate you as the legitimate user of the email address. It is advisable to answer the questions using the device and the location you have already used to access the Hotmail account in question
  12. Remember that there is no guarantee that you will be able to recover the password using this method. If Microsoft has even a speck of a doubt that someone else is trying to reset your password, this method will fail. This is to ensure the security of your in the account.
